Prediction Motang: From Poetry to Acting Success
Prediction Motang’s journey in the entertainment industry started at a young age. From writing and performing poetry to acting on TV, his path has been shaped by passion, hard work, and adaptability. He has faced many challenges but never gave up, proving that perseverance pays off.
From Poetry to Performance
Motang’s love for entertainment began in primary school, where he first discovered his talent for poetry and writing. With a natural ability to express emotions through words, he was encouraged to explore acting. “I used to recite poems with so much emotion and action, and people convinced me that acting was the next step,” he recalls. This led him to join his school’s drama club, where he not only performed but also took on directing roles.
His artistic journey did not stop there. A passionate dancer, he started as a pantsula dancer, traveling between Rustenburg and Johannesburg, where the dance form was deeply rooted in the culture. However, in 2009, his artistic vision shifted when a friend introduced him to Chris Brown’s music. Inspired by Brown’s style, he transitioned into Hip-Hop and R&B dancing, further broadening his creative horizons.
Challenges in the Industry
Breaking into the entertainment industry is never easy, and Motang faced his fair share of challenges. Competing with influencers who had a strong online presence made it difficult to secure roles, and the struggle to navigate the complexities of talent agencies presented another hurdle. “Some agents take advantage of young actors and rob them of their money, which can be demotivating,” he admits. However, despite these obstacles, he remained steadfast and never considered quitting.
A Breakthrough in Television
In 2021, while in Johannesburg, a friend in the industry sent him a message about an open casting call for Generations: The Legacy. Wasting no time, he applied—and to his surprise, he was accepted on the spot.
“The experience was amazing, yet nerve-wracking. Rubbing shoulders with big industry actors was intimidating at first, but it was also a huge learning curve.” Working on Generations put him in the spotlight, leading to endorsement deals with local brands and helping him build a strong reputation in the industry. “We all dream of getting international endorsements, but this was a great stepping stone,” he adds.
Learning from Legends
One of the highlights of his career was working alongside seasoned actors Ronnie Nyakale and Nat Ramabulana. “They were honest about the industry—it has sharks, and you need to be careful. Their advice was invaluable, and they encouraged me to keep perfecting my craft.”
Being part of a major production opened doors and significantly boosted his portfolio. “For an upcoming actor, having a soapie role under your belt is a game-changer. It’s not easy to break into platforms like Netflix without having industry experience.”
Upcoming Projects and Future Aspirations
Motang is currently gearing up for his role in Playboy Series, where he promises a performance that will “set the stage on fire.” His passion for storytelling goes beyond acting—he integrates movement with narrative by breaking down song lyrics to understand the deeper message before translating it into dance.
Apart from acting, he also plays a key role in the industry as a brand strategist. “I help people find their way into the industry, whether it’s clothing, modeling, music, or acting. Knowing how to maneuver around this space is key, and creativity is what makes a project successful.”
Looking ahead, he hopes to secure more lead and feature roles, especially ones that allow him to showcase his multilingual abilities on an international stage. “When you can speak multiple languages, your opportunities grow—especially abroad.”
Dream Collaborations and Advice for Young Actors
When asked about his dream collaborations, Motang mentions Bonko Khoza and Wiseman Mncube. “Bonko’s dedication and versatility are inspiring, and Wiseman is simply a great actor.”
For young actors trying to make it in the industry, his advice is clear: always have a backup plan. “The competition is tight, and gigs aren’t always consistent. You don’t want to fall into depression when opportunities don’t come immediately. Also, do your research on agencies—verify their legitimacy to avoid scams.”
With his unwavering commitment and ever-growing portfolio, Prediction Motang is undoubtedly on a trajectory to greater heights. His journey reminds us that success in the entertainment industry requires resilience, adaptability, and an unshakable belief in one’s craft.
