Bafana Bafana will host Lesotho in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane next month. The highly anticipated clash is scheduled for Friday, 21 March 2025, as Coach Hugo Broos’ side continues their journey towards securing a spot at the global showpiece.
Following their home fixture against their COSAFA neighbours, Bafana Bafana will travel to Benin via a chartered flight for their second qualifier shortly after.
Polokwane Ready to Welcome Bafana Bafana
Officials from Limpopo Province and the city of Polokwane confirmed the venue’s selection during a press briefing on Monday evening. Concerns over the stadium’s pitch readiness, following damage from a music concert in December, were addressed. To further assure the public, members of the media were invited to inspect the playing surface firsthand. Authorities remain confident that the stadium will successfully host its first match of the year in the coming weeks before the World Cup qualifier.
SAFA President Dr. Danny Jordaan emphasized the association’s ongoing commitment to spreading national team matches across different provinces.
“Taking this match to Polokwane is part of our vision to bring Bafana Bafana to all corners of the country. We’ve seen incredible support in Mangaung, Gqeberha, and Cape Town during the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, and we trust that Polokwane will deliver the same energy,” said Jordaan.
Limpopo Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the significance of this match for the province.
“This is more than just a game; it’s a historic moment for our city, our province, and the nation as we rally behind Bafana Bafana in their quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” she said.
Ticketing and Match Details to Be Announced
SAFA will soon release further details regarding ticket sales and the match’s kick-off time. Fans are encouraged to keep an eye out for official announcements as anticipation builds for this crucial encounter.
