Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has addressed the backlash surrounding the club’s decision to sign striker Tashreeq Morris, urging fans to give the player a fair chance.

Morris joined Amakhosi from SuperSport United in a swap deal that saw Christian Saile move in the opposite direction. However, his arrival was met with skepticism from supporters who questioned his goal-scoring record and overall impact.

Despite the criticism, the 30-year-old forward has immediately become a key figure in Nabi’s squad, featuring in the starting lineup for two consecutive matches. He played in Chiefs’ thrilling 2-2 draw against AmaZulu and was also in the XI when they secured a 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC at Athlone Stadium.

Nabi on Morris: “Look at What He Brings to the Team”

Speaking on the controversy surrounding Morris’ signing, Nabi emphasized that every transfer is carefully considered and tailored to fit the team’s needs.

“Every time you recruit new players, you must do your due diligence. In January, you need players who are ready to contribute immediately,” Nabi explained.

He highlighted Morris’ physical presence and ability to hold up play, which he believes adds a new dimension to Chiefs’ attack.

“Many were surprised by his signing, but he brings qualities that help us tactically. He allows us to play the ball up, hold it, and create attacking opportunities.”

New Faces at Amakhosi

Alongside Morris, Chiefs also secured the signings of Thabo Cele and Glody Lilepo in January. Cele, a former South African junior international, joined on a free transfer from Russia’s FC Fakel Voronezh, while Lilepo arrived from French side Valenciennes FC.

Nabi is confident that all three players will strengthen the squad, with Lilepo still yet to showcase his full potential.

“With Lilepo, we know he can do more than what he’s showing now. Thabo is a player who loves the ball, and we need that kind of bravery in our team,” Nabi added.

Looking Ahead

As Chiefs continue their push in the Betway Premiership, Morris will have the opportunity to prove his doubters wrong on the pitch. With Nabi backing him, the new signing could turn his critics into believers in the coming weeks.
