Debuting at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2024, production starts at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing the same month, with global market launch, including South Africa, scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2024.
M HYBRID Drive System: Power and Efficiency
The M HYBRID drive system integrates a 4.4-liter V8 engine with high-revving capability and an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission. The V8 engine boasts 430 kW and 750 Nm torque, complemented by the electric motor’s 145 kW and effective torque management, offering instant power delivery and a linear performance typical of BMW M models. The sports exhaust system enhances the driving experience with a dynamic engine note, featuring electrically controlled flaps and dual Black Chrome tailpipes.
In all-electric mode, the BMW M5 reaches speeds up to 140 km/h, supported by an 18.6 kWh high-voltage battery providing an unmatched electric range of 67–69 kilometers in the WLTP cycle. The Combined Charging Unit allows AC charging at up to 7.4 kW.
Advanced Chassis Technology
The BMW M5’s chassis features a double-wishbone front axle, five-link rear axle with bespoke kinematics, and adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers. Integral Active Steering enhances agility with rear-wheel steering, while near-actuator wheel slip limitation optimizes traction and stability. Optional M Carbon ceramic brakes ensure precise braking performance.
Assistance Systems and Personalization
The new BMW M5 offers a comprehensive suite of standard and optional assistance systems, enhancing comfort and safety.
