Rustenburg Noord, North West – A tragic house fire claimed the life of an 8-year-old child in the early hours of this morning after a candle reportedly fell and set nearby clothes on fire.
According to a reliable anonymous source, the parents of the children had gone to a nearby tavern on Saturday night, leaving their three children at home—aged 2, 8, and the oldest whose age is estimated to be between 12 and 13.
When the parents returned around 11pm, they made a fire outside. At some point, the father went into the house to get food and used a candle for light, since the house had no electricity. It’s alleged that he left the candle on an ironing board.
Later, the oldest child saw the candle had fallen and set clothes on fire. She tried to wake the parents, but they were asleep. The fire reportedly started around 2am.
Due to a lack of running water in the area, neighbours were unable to help stop the fire. The local fire department arrived late, by which time the house was already in flames.
The 8-year-old child tragically died in the fire, with only skeletal remains found inside the house. The other two children managed to escape.
This incident has shocked the Rustenburg Noord community, sparking concerns about ongoing water shortages, delayed emergency response times, and the continued dangers of using candles in homes without electricity.
Authorities are expected to investigate the full details of the fire and surrounding circumstances.
