Pretoria, South Africa, August 13, 2024 – President Cyril Ramaphosa will preside over the signing of the second Presidential Health Compact on Thursday, 15 August 2024, at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.

This new compact builds upon the progress of the 2023 Presidential Health Summit, which followed the inaugural summit in 2018. The summit brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including government, business, labor, civil society, health professionals, unions, service users, statutory councils, academia, and researchers. Their collective aim was to develop sustainable and inclusive solutions to address challenges in the national health system.

The stakeholders involved in the Presidential Health Compact play a crucial role in supporting the Department of Health’s efforts to enhance the country’s healthcare system.

Originally focused on nine key pillars, the compact now includes a 10th pillar introduced at last year’s summit. These pillars cover the development of human resources, improving access to medicine, vaccines, and health products, upgrading infrastructure, engaging the private sector, ensuring quality healthcare, improving public sector financial management, strengthening governance and leadership, fostering community engagement, enhancing information systems, and preparing for pandemics.
