SuperSport United head coach, Gavin Hunt, has urged the Premier Soccer League (PSL) to implement a new rule that focuses on developing South African goalkeepers.

Hunt highlighted that the increasing presence of foreign goalkeepers in the Betway Premiership is limiting opportunities for local talent, particularly young South African players.

The Matsatsantsa boss shared his views after his side suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs in the Carling Knockout Cup. During the match, Rwanda’s Faicre Ntwari kept a clean sheet for Chiefs, further emphasizing Hunt’s concerns.

He pointed out that other leagues, like the Egyptian Premier League, have already set restrictions on foreign goalkeepers, ensuring that local players get more chances to shine.

“It’s becoming difficult with the number of foreign goalkeepers in the league. Maybe the rules need to change, or clubs should consider giving more opportunities to local goalkeepers if they are available,” Hunt said, as quoted by iDiski Times.
