South African winger Mohau Nkota has successfully undergone knee surgery, his club Al Ettifaq confirmed.
The 21 year old joined the Saudi Arabian side ahead of the 2024/25 season and made an encouraging start to life at the club. However, the second half of his campaign proved challenging both on and off the field.
Nkota suffered a personal tragedy in February following the passing of his father, which forced him to miss several matches. Although he returned to action and featured regularly in April, starting four of the club’s final five games, his season ended on a disappointing note after sustaining a knee injury.
In a statement, Al Ettifaq confirmed that the young winger underwent a successful operation.
“Mohau Nkota underwent successful knee surgery yesterday. The club’s family wishes the player a speedy recovery and complete wellness, and a quick return to the fields to continue his journey with the team.”
The injury setback also comes at a difficult time for Nkota’s international ambitions. Despite previously being involved in the plans of Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos, he was not included in the preliminary 32 man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
As Nkota begins his rehabilitation journey, South African football fans will be hoping to see the talented youngster return stronger and continue his development both at club and international level.
